PHILANTHROPIC ADVOCATES: How we get in our own way!

January 27 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Advocacy Basics, Part 3 – PHILANTHROPIC ADVOCATES: How we get in our own way and why it’s imperative we change!

SVP Seattle Partners Ruby Love and Sharon Chen, joined by Guillermo Rogel Jr, a professional lobbyist in Washington state, will talk about how philanthropists working in advocacy can sometimes undermine our own effectiveness when we forget to think about equity issues in all phases of policy change — crafting, passing, as well as implementing. Using examples and stories that we have seen when working on racial justice and environmental issues, we will lead a discussion about common blind spots and practical ideas for avoiding them.
