David Beard is the Policy and Advocacy Director and the Network Lead at School’s Out Washington. In this role, he leads efforts to increase child and youth access to high-quality ELOs after school and in the summer. Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for children and families. After working as the policy director at the Washington State Council for Children and Families, he spent five years in the DC-Baltimore area where he worked for The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Maryland Advocates for Children and Youth on education issues. He received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Washington and his master’s of science in social work from the University of Texas.
