Jon has been a SVP partners since 2005. Jon was a software engineer at Microsoft for more than twenty years, where he helped develop parts of its Exchange, SharePoint, and Office products until his retirement in 2014. During that transition, SVP played a crucial role in connecting him to the non-profit sector and the broader Puget Sound community. During his time at SVP, Jon has served on its kindergarten readiness grantmaking, finance community of practice, diversity, cultural competency, and equity, and portfolio stewardship (PGC) committees. He joined the SVP Board in 2019.
SVP connected Jon with meaningful volunteer engagements with area non-profit investees like Southwest Youth and Family Services, Equal Opportunity Schools, and WA-BLOC, where he helped solve capacity and operations challenges. Since 2016 he has been SVP’s Lead Partner for investee East African Community Services. Jon is most proud of SVP’s continuing work developing improving its racial equity lens and developing a partnership committed to building communities where everyone can thrive regardless of race or income. As part of his broader social impact work, Jon is involved in impact investing, political organizing, and capacity development for POC-led community-based non-profits. From 2015-2018 he served as a volunteer staff member and advisor for RVC (previously Rainier Valley Corps), a Seattle-based POC-led capacity development organization.
He grew up in Dallas, received a BS in Computer Science from Yale University, and moved to the Pacific Northwest in the early 1990s, where he fell in love with the mountains, water, greenery, and even the clouds. He likes gadgets and is making slow progress with guitar lessons. Jon and Mollie live in Seattle and have two children in high school.
