SVP is thrilled to announce our partnership with Basilica Bio in launching our first Climate Justice Grantmaking Collaborative. Over three months, SVP Partners and community leaders will come together to learn about climate justice, build relationships, and award SVP’s first climate justice grant. This is a unique opportunity to take action on one of the most pressing issues of our time in partnership with grassroots communities.
Join us for an online informational session on Tuesday, February 20th at Noon. Register here!
Why Climate Justice?
Philanthropy is increasingly focusing on climate change, supporting global, national, and local solutions. However, despite this critical support, BIPOC-led grassroots organizations implementing local climate solutions often miss out on funding. The Donors of Color Network highlights a concerning trend: a study by The New School, in collaboration with Building Equity and Alignment, reveals that just 1.3% of the $1.34 billion given to 12 national environmental funders reaches BIPOC-led, justice-focused groups. Yet, the contributions of these organizations are vital to the comprehensive efforts required to effectively address climate change.
SVP Seattle Reimagined Vision focuses on amplifying local, grassroots BIPOC-led and serving non-profits, like many organizations not currently receiving funding from climate donors.
The program will bring together SVP Partners and community leaders to learn about climate justice, hear about local efforts to implement climate solutions, and identify a partnership (award a grant and skilled volunteering) between SVP and a local BIPOC-led climate justice non-profit in King County. Over three months, cohort members will have the opportunity to build relationships, familiarize themselves with local BIPOC-led and serving organizations working on climate justice, and learn about grantmaking.
Why join the Collaborative?
SVP grantmaking cohorts go beyond traditional grantmaking.
Cohorts work side-by-side with community changemakers to co-create a grantmaking process that elevates the voices of those closest to the issues. After the cohort is complete, we offer SVP skilled volunteers to our grantees to build the non-profit’s skills and resources needed for long-term sustainability and success. Throughout the entire grantmaking and skilled volunteering process, we invest in building relationships that lead to lasting change.
