DESCRIPTION:Join this informal and informative workshop to understand how to use your voice to advocate for progressive Washington State laws. Learn how to work on supporting the passing of a new law or changing an established one. Walk away with resources to engage in individual advocacy work and/or engage in SVP’s partner organizations’ advocacy efforts. \nTerri Cole\, SVP Partner\nAdvocacy Basics\, Part 2 – GO FROM CARING TO ACTING: Advocating for Progressive State Laws \nDemocracy is messy\, systemic change is hard\, and issues feel overwhelming. It is hard to know where and how to have an impact. Fortunately\, you can! \nThis is a virtual event. Please have a laptop or smartphone handy\, this is a hands-on workshop where you will conduct real-time searches. \n\nRSVP\n \nLed by Terri Cole\, SVP Partner  \nAfter 30 years in the high-tech industry\, Terri shifted her focus towards using her passion\, experience\, and skills to create a more just world. Since becoming an SVP Partner in 2018\, Terri has served on the New Grant Committee and is currently the SVP Lead Partner with United Indians of All Tribes Foundation.  \nTerri is also involved in advancing progressive local and state policies and laws. Since retiring\, Terri has focused on engaging with elected officials when the state legislature is in session\, and tracking and supporting key bills promoted by progressive policy organizations such as League of Women Voters\, Washington Coalition for Police Accountability\, Washington BLM Alliance. \nPILOTING ADVOCACY WORKSHOPS! \nSVP Seattle is adding advocacy to its body of work that Partners can learn about and engage in. As part of the organization’s Reimagine work\, SVP is working to broaden the definition of philanthropy to include advocacy work and address systemic racism by engaging Partners in local and regional advocacy efforts. Join us as we develop our advocacy programming\, give us real-time feedback\, and help us establish robust advocacy education programming!
