SUMMARY:WHAT IS ADVOCACY? An introductory workshop
DESCRIPTION:Advocacy Basics\, Part 1 – WHAT IS ADVOCACY? An introductory workshop. This hands-on workshop\, led by SVP Seattle Executive Director Emiko Atherton\, is designed to give participants an understanding of what it means to engage in advocacy. Both individually\, working for causes you believe in\, and as an SVP Partner\, supporting SVP partner organizations’ advocacy efforts. Learn about advocacy at different levels of government — city\, county\, and state — and SVP’s vision to both broaden the definition of philanthropy to include advocacy work and address systemic racism by engaging in local and regional advocacy efforts. Led by Emiko Atherton\, SVP Seattle Executive Director Emiko comes to SVP with over fifteen years of leadership experience in the public and nonprofit sectors and engaged in advocacy work. Her career includes extensive work in strategic planning\, policy development and implementation\, fundraising\, coalition building\, and advocacy. Prior to joining SVP Seattle\, Emiko served as Vice President for Thriving Communities at the national nonprofit Smart Growth America. In this role\, Emiko received national recognition for her work to bring a racial equity lens into national and local transportation policies. Her work was highlighted in national media outlets\, including the New York Times\, the Washington Post\, and NPR. This is a virtual event. Please have a laptop or smartphone handy\, this is a hands-on workshop where you will conduct real-time searches. PILOTING ADVOCACY WORKSHOPS!
